Prof. Francesco Giacosa, Ph.D., is a theoretical physicist at the Institute of Physics of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce.

He graduated from the University of Turin (1996-2001) and obtained his doctorate from the University of Tübingen (2005). He worked as an assistant professor at the University of Frankfurt (2005-2014) and obtained his habilitation in 2013, after which he became a lecturer. Since 2014, he has been an associate professor at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, and since 2017, he has been the head of doctoral studies in the discipline of physical sciences. In 2020, he became a full professor and took over as the head of the Department of High-Energy Physics.

He conducts research mainly in the field of elementary particles and the foundations of quantum mechanics. He participates in the work of international research teams from universities and institutes in countries such as Germany, the United States, Italy, and Hungary. He is the leader of two NCN grants, the coordinator of two ULAM projects with NAWA, and a participant in the DFG, BMBF, and DAAD projects. He reviews scientific projects for NCN, DFG, and FWF.

He has authored over 190 scientific publications, e.g.: Fate of the critical endpoint at large Nc (Editor’s suggestion of “Physical Review D”), Multichannel Decay law (“Physics Letters B” – sole author), and Boosting unstable particles (“Physical Review A”). He is a reviewer for several international scientific journals.

Until 2024, he had supervised six doctoral students.

Dr Katarzyna Ostrowska

Dr Katarzyna Ostrowska holds a doctoral degree in the humanities, specializing in linguistics. She serves as the project manager for the initiative “Akademia Młodych Reportażystów” (Academy of Young Reporters), funded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (2023–2025). She is the Deputy Head of the Center for Polish Language and Culture at the Faculty of Humanities (2020–2024) and a member of the Advisory Board of the National Representation of Doctoral Students (term of office in 2023).

Dr Katarzyna Ostrowska is also a member of the Polish Language Proficiency Commission (2021–2024) and serves as the secretary of the evaluation team of the Polish Accreditation Committee (since 2020). She mentors the student research group “Forum Młodych Humanistów” (Forum of Young Humanists) (since 2020) and is a member of the scientific committee of the 4th Forum of Doctoral Students (2020). She chaired the organizational committee of the 3rd Forum of Doctoral Students (2019) and led the University Council of Doctoral Student Self-Government (2019–2020).

She has received the “Friend of the Student” award granted by the Competition Committee of the Student Council (2019). She is also a steering group member for the development of an educational module in the project “Kierunek Przyszłość – Starachowicki Program Rozwoju Lokalnego” (Direction Future – Starachowice Local Development Program) funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014–2021. Additionally, she is affiliated with the Kielce Scientific Society and the Polish Language Enthusiasts Society.

Dr Katarzyna Ostrowska conducts research on the language and style of contemporary Polish book reportage. She is the author of numerous articles published in journals such as:

She is a co-editor of collective publications, including: Glottodydaktyka polonistyczna wczoraj, dziś, jutro. Między doświadczeniem a nowymi wyzwaniami, Język w przestrzeni literackiej, medialnej, politycznej.  She has participated in academic and teaching internships at institutions such as: University of Vlora, University of Zagreb, Università degli Studi della Tuscia – Viterbo, Helsingin Yliopisto. Dr Katarzyna Ostrowska is the author of four academic monographs:

Head of section for ‘Human Sciences’

Dr. hab. Grzegorz Miernik, historian, professor at the Institute of History.

A graduate of the University of Silesia in Katowice (1984). Associated with the Jan Kochanowski University since 1987. Defended his doctoral dissertation in 1995 at the Faculty of Humanities of the former Higher Pedagogical School in Kielce. Obtained the post-doctoral degree in 2008 at the Jan Kochanowski University of Humanities and Sciences in Kielce based on the thesis titled “Us” and “Them”. The Society of Kielce Region and the Stalinist System of Power. This work was awarded the KLIO Prize in the category of scientific monographs (2008). In 2017, the book “Disgraced” about the village of Okół was distinguished. Tales of rebellion, written by Dariusz Jarosz (IH PAN) and Grzegorz Miernik, was awarded the “Polityka” Historical Prize in the category of scientific and popular science works.

He researches the recent history of Poland, particularly social and economic history. Author and co-author of several monographs. He has published nearly a hundred scientific and popular science articles. He has been the editor and co-editor of several collective works.

He has been the supervisor of around 100 master’s theses and several bachelor’s theses. He has experience in educating young scholars, having supervised eight doctoral students so far. He has been a reviewer in habilitation and doctoral procedures.

From 1996 to 2002, he was the deputy director of the Institute of History. For over a decade, he has been the Head of Doctoral Studies in the discipline of history. For four years, he has been the Head of the Humanities Section at the Doctoral School of the Jan Kochanowski University. He is a co-founder of the Polish Society of Economic History, where he has held various positions in the authorities.

Dr hab. Grzegorz Czerwonka is a graduate of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (biotechnology, 2002–2007). In 2014, he obtained a doctoral degree in biological sciences from Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, and in 2024, he earned a habilitated doctor degree in the same discipline at the same institution. Since 2008, he has been professionally associated with the Institute of Biology at Jan Kochanowski University, and starting in 2024, he has served as the Head of the Department of Microbiology at the university.

His scientific work focuses on microbiology, particularly the biosynthesis of external structures in the cell walls of Gram-negative bacteria and the inhibition of bacterial biofilm formation. Dr hab. G. Czerwonka has supervised over 40 theses in microbiology and biotechnology, two doctoral dissertations, and has served as a co-supervisor in two additional doctoral proceedings.

He is the author or co-author of over 30 scientific articles, three book chapters, and five patent applications. Since 2013, he has been a member of the Polish Society of Microbiologists.

Dr hab. Adam Zamojski is a habilitated doctor in social sciences, specializing in political science, with a focus on international relations and European studies (Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Silesia, 2016). He holds a doctoral degree in the humanities, specializing in philosophy (Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Silesia, 2000). He completed his master’s studies in Political Science and Social Sciences, focusing on social and local government studies (Faculty of Management and Administration, Jan Kochanowski Pedagogical University in Kielce, 1995), as well as undergraduate studies in Management and Marketing (Faculty of Management and Administration, Jan Kochanowski Pedagogical University in Kielce, 1996).

An academic teacher since 1997, he served as an associate professor at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce from 2017 to 2020. Since 2020, he has been a university professor at the Institute of International Relations and Public Policies, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. Between 2002 and 2005, he served as Vice-Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Management and Administration, Świętokrzyska Academy in Kielce. Dr. Zamojski is the author of 90 academic publications, including the monographs: Tożsamość cywilizacji europejskiej. Geneza, kompleks konstytuujący i kierunki transformacji, Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jana Kochanowskiego, Kielce 2015, New Age. Filozofia, religia i paranauka, Zakład Wydawniczy »NOMOS«, Kraków 2002.

He has organized or co-organized 20 academic conferences (both international and national) and has supervised 71 master’s theses and 44 bachelor’s theses. He is a member of the Polish Political Science Association.

Dr hab. Zamojski’s research interests include the origins, evolution, and transformation directions of European civilization, the identity of Europe, civilizational aspects of international relations, political doctrines and ideas, and the philosophy of politics.

 

Deputy Head of the Social Sciences Section

Dr. Anna Róg, a social pedagogue, is an assistant professor at the Institute of Pedagogy, Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. She graduated from the Higher Pedagogical School in Częstochowa in 1999. In 2005, she defended her doctoral dissertation titled “Functioning of SOS Children’s Villages in local communities” at the University of Opole. Since 2009, she has been affiliated with the Institute of Pedagogy at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, where she has been serving as the deputy director for education since 2012.

Her research interests are primarily focused on three areas: the functioning of single mothers’ families in the context of their roles and the possibilities of fulfilling family-assigned functions, as well as factors determining the process of single mothers’ self-reliance and independence from broadly understood social assistance; the functioning of contemporary families and the activities of institutions supporting and replacing the family; social prevention, aimed not only at combating factors harmful to health but also at creating conditions for the full self-realization of individuals and developing personal and social skills that influence the building of self-worth and the construction of satisfying interpersonal relationships.

She is a mentor and reviewer of dozens of diploma theses and an assistant mentor of two doctoral theses. She is the author or co-author of 5 monographs, nearly 50 articles in monographs and scientific journals, and a co-editor of 5 monographs. She is a member of the Polish Pedagogical Society.

 

Head of the section for ‘Medical and Health Sciences’

Dr. Wioletta Adamus-Białek, D.Sc., microbiologist, geneticist, professor of health sciences at the Collegium Medicum of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce.

In 2003, she completed her studies in biology at the Świętokrzyska Academy in Kielce and then began her doctoral studies at the University of Łódź in collaboration with the Polish Academy of Sciences Center for Medical Biology in Łódź. She also completed postgraduate studies in “Commercialization and Knowledge Transfer Management” at UJK and “Healthcare Organization Management” at the Warsaw School of Economics. Currently, she is the head of the Medical Genetics Laboratory at the Department of Medical Procedures, Institute of Medical Sciences, UJK. She is a co-founder and longtime chairperson of the Polish Society of Microbiologists, Kielce Branch. She has conducted research internships at the Karolinska Institute, Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) in Stockholm, the School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia in Norwich, the Warsaw Medical University in Warsaw, and the Department of Genetics and Pathomorphology, Center for New Technologies, Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin.

She has supervised numerous bachelor’s and master’s theses in environmental protection and biotechnology at UJK and served as an auxiliary supervisor for two doctoral dissertations at the Institute of Health Sciences. Currently, she is a supervisor for a doctoral dissertation.

Her scientific interests include urinary tract pathogens, particularly E. coli. Currently, she is involved in research on the genetic basis of pancreatic diseases and the human microbiome.

She is the author or co-author of 29 scientific publications with a cumulative Impact Factor of 52.42.

dr hab. Andrzej Ślązak, prof. UJK

Dr hab. Andrzej Ślązak began his musical education at the age of six. He continued his studies at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź under the guidance of Professor Tadeusz Chmielewski, earning a Master of Arts degree in 2010. In 2014, Andrzej Ślązak obtained a doctoral degree in musical arts, a habilitated doctorate in 2019, and in 2021 was appointed a professor at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce.

Andrzej Ślązak’s commitment to promoting Polish culture and national heritage has been recognized with the Cultural Award of the Marshal of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship and the Rector’s Award of Jan Kochanowski University for scientific achievements. He has also received scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2020) and the Polish-American Fulbright Commission (2023).

Prof. Ślązak’s artistic activity focuses on the performance of early and contemporary music. He is one of the first pianists in Poland to perform works by composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino, Peter Ablinger, John Adams, John Cage, Beat Furrer, Mauricio Kagel, Cornelius Schwehr, and Łukasz Woś. He has performed worldwide, including in the United States, Canada, England, Germany, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Portugal, and Taiwan.

He actively collaborates with contemporary composers such as Peter Ablinger, Zygmunt Krauze, Jerzy Mądrawski, Dariusz Przybylski, Paweł Szymański, Artur Zagajewski, and Łukasz Woś. To date, Prof. Ślązak has released nine albums featuring works by Józef Koffler, Zygmunt Krauze, Jerzy Mądrawski, Roman Palester, Karol Rathaus, Władysław Szpilman, Paweł Szymański, and Aleksander Tansman.

His recordings also include masterpieces of piano literature such as Bach’s Goldberg Variations and The Art of Fugue, Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, and works by Erik Satie, Lili Boulanger, and Simeon ten Holt.

Since 2017, Andrzej Ślązak has been a member of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music, and since 2023, of the Association of Polish Chamber Artists. He currently teaches at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, where he has held leadership roles since 2020.
