LEGAL GROUND

An Individual Research Plan (IRP) is a mandatory component of education at a doctoral school. It defines the scope and schedule of the doctoral student’s research activities, as well as the expected date of submission of the doctoral dissertation.
It serves as the basis for the substantive evaluation of the doctoral student’s progress.

The legal basis for the development and implementation of the Individual Research Plan includes:

Article 202.

1. In agreement with the supervisor(s), the doctoral student develops an individual research plan, which includes a schedule for preparing the doctoral thesis, and submits it to the entity running the doctoral school within 12 months from the start of the education. In the case of appointing an assistant supervisor, the plan is submitted after being reviewed by that supervisor.

2. The implementation of the plan is subject to a mid-term evaluation, which takes place halfway through the education period specified in the education program or, in the case of a 6-semester education, during the fourth semester.

Article 203.

The doctoral student is removed from the list of doctoral students in the following cases:

a negative result of the mid-term evaluation;
failure to submit the doctoral thesis within the deadline specified in the individual research plan;
resignation from the education. The doctoral student may be removed from the list of doctoral students in the following cases:
unsatisfactory progress in preparing the doctoral thesis;
failure to fulfill obligations as mentioned in Article 207.

Article 204.

1. The education of a doctoral student concludes with the submission of the doctoral thesis.

2. The individual research plan determines the deadline for submitting the doctoral thesis.

§ 4

Individual Research Plan

1. The doctoral student, in consultation with their supervisor or supervisors, prepares an individual research plan covering the period of education at the Doctoral School.

2. The individual research plan, the template of which is attached as Appendix No. 1 to these Regulations, shall include in particular:

1) a plan of the research that the doctoral student will conduct during their education at the Doctoral School; 2)

2) a schedule for the preparation of the doctoral dissertation;

3) a plan of activities aimed at enhancing competencies that prepare the doctoral student for work of a research, research and development, or artistic nature.

3. The individual research plan must indicate the possibility of funding for the planned tasks.

4. The supervisor or supervisors confirm with their signature that the individual research plan has been prepared in consultation with them.

5. The individual research plan requires an opinion from the auxiliary supervisor – if an auxiliary supervisor has been appointed.

6. The doctoral student shall submit the individual research plan to the Director, after consultation with the supervisor or supervisors, or the supervisor and the auxiliary supervisor, taking into account paragraph 5, no later than within the period specified in the Act.

7. The individual research plan is reviewed by the field-specific team for the evaluation of the individual research plan, which acts as an advisory body to the Director. The team includes: the head of the section – as chairperson, and two representatives from each discipline within the given field-specific section, one of whom is a representative of the Scientific Council and the other a representative of the Quality Assurance Committee of the Doctoral School.

8. In the event that changes need to be made to the individual research plan during the course of education at the Doctoral School, the provisions of paragraphs 1–7 shall apply accordingly.

9. The doctoral student is obliged to submit an updated individual research plan within 30 days after the suspension of education has ended, under the terms specified in paragraphs 1–7.

§ 9

Removal from the List of Doctoral Students

A doctoral student shall be removed from the list of doctoral students in the event of:

2) failure to submit the doctoral dissertation within the deadline specified in the individual research plan, subject to § 8 section 1;

A doctoral student may be removed from the list of doctoral students in the event of failure to carry out the education program and the individual research plan, in particular:

1) failure to submit the individual research plan within the deadline specified in the Act;

The decision to remove a doctoral student from the list is issued by the Director, acting on behalf of the Rector.
