What is funded under the PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS programme?


Funds from the subsidy granted to the University are intended for the implementation of scientific research or artistic work carried out by doctoral students of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce.


Who is eligible to apply?


Under the PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS competition, research projects implemented by doctoral students enrolled at the Doctoral School of Jan Kochanowski University may be financed.


What are the funding principles for projects for doctoral students?


A competition titled PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS is held to support the implementation of scientific research or artistic work conducted by doctoral students in accordance with the topic of their doctoral dissertation.


What tasks must be completed as part of the research or artistic activity?


  • conducting research necessary to submit a research project application to an external institution,
  • publishing research results in a journal included in the ministerial list of journals and peer-reviewed materials from international conferences valid on the date of application submission, with the assigned point value,
  • publishing a monograph in a publishing house included in the ministerial list of publishers of peer-reviewed scientific monographs valid on the date of application submission,
  • completing a domestic or international research internship (of at least two weeks),
  • travelling to conduct a query or scientific consultations,
  • completing a course or training related to the conducted scientific activity,
  • actively participating in an international scientific conference or artistic event.

What is the maximum amount of funding?


The maximum amount of funding for the implementation of PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS is PLN 5,000.


What is the project completion deadline?


The implementation period cannot extend beyond 31 December of the year in which the funds were awarded.


How many projects may be awarded in one calendar year?


In a single calendar year, no more than 25 projects may be awarded before the mid-term evaluation and 25 projects after the mid-term evaluation.


What is the application procedure?


Applications for project implementation must be submitted by 15 January of the given calendar year to the Director of the Doctoral School, who performs a formal assessment of the applications and verifies the points for scientific achievements listed in the applications in accordance with the rules set out in Annex no.6 to the Regulations.

Where can the application form be found?


The application form template for the implementation of a project for doctoral students is provided in Annex no.3.


What does the formal evaluation of the application involve?


The formal evaluation of applications involves verifying their completeness and checking whether a given application meets all the rules set out in these Regulations.

Only applications that receive a positive formal evaluation are admitted for further processing.
Applications that do not meet formal requirements are returned to the doctoral student.

Applications meeting the formal criteria are reviewed by the Scientific Council of the Doctoral School, whose opinion is expressed in the form of a resolution adopted separately for each application.


When must the doctoral student submit a project progress report?


Doctoral students are required to submit a project implementation report by 15 January of the year following the year in which the funds were granted.


Where should the report be submitted?


Reports on the implementation of projects must be submitted to the Director of the Doctoral School.


Where can the report form be found?


The report template for project implementation is provided in Annex no.5 to these Regulations.


How are the reports evaluated?


Reports are evaluated based on:

  • the academic output resulting from the project;
  • the relevance of the completed tasks;
  • the justification of the incurred financial expenditures in relation to the completed tasks.

REGULATIONS SPECIFYING THE PRINCIPLES FOR FINANCING SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT WORK, AND ARTISTIC ACTIVITY FROM THE FUNDS OF JAN KOCHANOWSKI UNIVERSITY IN KIELCE

 

§1

GENERAL PROVISIONS

 

1. Financial resources from the subsidy granted to the University by the minister responsible for higher education and science, allocated for maintaining and developing research potential, including the conduct of scientific activity, pursuant to the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, as amended), hereinafter referred to as the Act, shall be allocated to:

1) SPECIAL PROJECTS – activities aimed at improving the quality of scientific research or artistic creativity conducted in specific fields of science and art;

2) PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS – the implementation of scientific research or artistic work carried out by doctoral students of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce;

3) RESEARCH PROJECTS – maintaining the continuity of ongoing scientific research and artistic activity;

4) the maintenance of research and scientific equipment, improving the quality of scientific and artistic activity conducted at UJK, and its dissemination;

5) the commercialisation of the results of scientific activity and know-how related to those results;

6) the financing of journals published by the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce;

7) the compulsory civil liability insurance for medical experiments.

2. The funds referred to in items 1(1), (2), (3), (4), and (6) shall remain under the supervision of the Vice-Rector for Science.

3. The funds referred to in item 1(5) shall remain under the supervision of the Vice-Rector for Development and Finance.

4. The funds referred to in item 1(7) shall remain under the supervision of the Vice-Rector for Medical Affairs.

5. The financing of projects referred to in items 1(1)–(3) shall take place through competitive procedures under the following competitions:

1) Competition for SPECIAL PROJECTS for tasks aimed at improving the quality of scientific research or artistic creativity, implemented individually by a University employee, including:

a) activities necessary to submit a research project application to an external institution, completed with the submission of the application in the year of the project’s implementation;
b) publication of research results in a journal included in the ministerial list of journals and peer-reviewed materials from international conferences valid on the date of submission, with at least 140 points assigned;
c) publication of a monograph in a publishing house included in the list of publishers of peer-reviewed scientific monographs;
d) a short-term stay at a foreign research centre for the purpose of conducting research;
e) organisation or public presentation of an artistic event of significant importance for visual or musical arts.

The maximum amount of funding for a SPECIAL PROJECT is PLN 20,000, and the project must be completed by 31 December of the year in which the funds were granted.
No more than 30 SPECIAL PROJECTS may be awarded in one calendar year.
An employee may receive funds under a Special Project once every three years.

2) Competition for PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS for the implementation of scientific research or artistic work carried out by doctoral students in accordance with the topic of their doctoral dissertation, including tasks such as:

a) conducting research necessary to submit a research project application to an external institution;
b) publication of research results in a journal included in the ministerial list of journals and peer-reviewed materials from international conferences valid on the date of application submission, with the assigned point value;
c) publication of a monograph in a publishing house included in the ministerial list of publishers of peer-reviewed scientific monographs valid on the date of application submission;
d) completion of a domestic or international research internship (minimum of two weeks);
e) travel for the purpose of conducting a query or scientific consultations;
f) completion of a course or training related to the conducted scientific activity;
g) active participation in an international scientific conference or artistic event.

The maximum amount of funding for the implementation of PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS is PLN 5,000, and the project must be completed by 31 December of the year in which the funds were granted.
In one calendar year, no more than 25 projects may be awarded before the mid-term evaluation and 25 projects after the mid-term evaluation.

3) Competition for RESEARCH PROJECTS to finance activities related to maintaining the continuity of ongoing scientific research or artistic activity. Research projects should be completed by 31 December of the year following the year in which the funds were granted.

6. The Vice-Rector for Science shall inform institute directors and heads of departments about the amount of funds available within scientific disciplines for the financing of research projects referred to in item 3 of this section, in accordance with the rules set out in Annex No. 1 to the Regulations, for the respective years of project implementation, after determining the amount of subsidy funds allocated for financing scientific and artistic activities at UJK in the given years.

§2

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

 

1. Under the PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS competition, research projects implemented by doctoral students enrolled at the Doctoral School of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce may be financed.

§5

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING AND EVALUATING APPLICATIONS UNDER THE COMPETITION FOR PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS

 

1. The application form template for the implementation of a project for doctoral students constitutes Annex No. 3 to these Regulations.

2. Applications for project implementation must be submitted by 15 January of the given calendar year to the Director of the Doctoral School, who performs a formal evaluation of the applications and verifies the points for scientific achievements listed in the applications in accordance with the rules specified in Annex No. 6 to the Regulations.

3. The formal evaluation of applications consists in assessing the completeness of the application and verifying whether it meets all the rules set out in these Regulations.

4. Only applications that have received a positive formal evaluation are admitted for further processing. Applications that do not meet the formal requirements shall be returned to the doctoral student.

5. Applications meeting the formal criteria shall be reviewed by the Scientific Council of the Doctoral School, whose opinion shall be expressed in the form of a resolution adopted separately for each application.

6. Based on the opinion referred to in paragraph 5, the Chairperson of the Scientific Council of the Doctoral School shall prepare a list of reviewed projects.

7. The list referred to in paragraph 6 shall include:

1) the name and surname of the project leader;

2) the field(s) and discipline(s) in which the project will be carried out;

3) the title of the project;

4) the project implementation period;

5) the recommended amount of financial support for project implementation;

6) information on the opinion issued.

8. The list of positively reviewed applications shall be submitted to the Vice-Rector for Science.

9. Based on the list referred to in paragraph 8, the Vice-Rector for Science – and, in the case of the disciplines medical sciences and health sciences, the Vice-Rector for Science in cooperation with the Vice-Rector for Medical Affairs – shall prepare a list of applications recommended for funding and submit it to the Rector.

10. The Rector’s decision approving projects for funding shall be final.

§8

REPORTS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECTS FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS

 

1. Doctoral students are required to submit a project implementation report by 15 January of the year following the year in which the funds were granted.

2. Reports on project implementation shall be submitted to the Director of the Doctoral School.

3. The report template for project implementation constitutes Annex No. 5 to these Regulations.

4. Reports are subject to both formal and substantive evaluation.

5. The formal evaluation of reports shall be carried out by the Director of the Doctoral School.

6. The formal evaluation of a report includes an assessment of its completeness.

7. Reports that do not meet formal requirements shall be returned to the project leader.

8. Only reports that have received a positive formal evaluation are admitted for substantive evaluation.

9. The substantive evaluation of reports shall be conducted by the Scientific Council of the Doctoral School.

10. The evaluation of reports shall be based on the following criteria:

1) the academic output resulting from the implementation of the project;

2) the relevance of the tasks carried out;

3) the appropriateness of the financial expenditures in relation to the tasks performed.

11. Each report shall be evaluated by a separate resolution.

12. Evaluated project implementation reports, together with the evaluation protocol, shall be promptly submitted to the Vice-Rector for Science.

13. Evaluated reports shall be approved by the Vice-Rector for Science, and in the case of the disciplines medical sciences and health sciences – by the Vice-Rector for Science in cooperation with the Vice-Rector for Medical Affairs.
A negative evaluation of the report results in ineligibility to submit an application in the next edition of the competition.
